Texas Library Association Convention Computer Rentals*

exas Library Association Convention Computer Rentals
The Texas Library Association's Annual Convention will take place April 14-17, 2010, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. This year's theme is "Filtering Caos: From Information to Knowledge," which according to TLA president Patrick Heath reflects on the critical roles of libraries and librarians in today's "information rich environment." Librarians help people find information so they can turn it into knowledge and the conference has been designed to offer quality professional development and intellectual opportunities for attendees, as well as equip librarians with the tools they need to do that.

One big focus of this year's conference is the new and changing world of technology and social media. The Hands On Lab sessions will help library workers as they'll get hands-on computer training from experts in technology trends such as using Google apps, creating digital book trailers, creating podcasts, building online library communities and more. Each lab lasts about two hours. The convention will also offer you the chance to see a number of authors and speakers; these include: Scott Simon, host of NPR's Weekend Edition; Julie Powell, author of Julie and Julia; children's book author and artist, Ingrid Law; author and actress, Amy Wilson; Ken C. Davis, author of Don't Know Much About History; best-selling authors, Adriana Trigiani and Elizabeth Berg; Ginny Cooper, the director of the Washington D.C. Public Library; Camila Alire, ALA's president and dean emirta at the University of New Mexico and Colorado State University; Steven Bel, associate librarian for research and instructional services at Temple University; Lisa Brunkan and Susan McBurnery, two grassroots library activists; and more!

In addition to the many guest speakers and the Hands On Lab, you'll have the opportunity to meet and get an autograph from some of your favorite authors in the Exhibit Hall, watch the presentation of several TLA awards, earn Continuing Professional Education credit, enter a disaster relief raffle, view dozens of exhibits and the technology showcase, attend meal functions, attend the All-Conference Welcome Party, Lynda Becker Memorial Downtown Walking Tour, 5th Annual Book Cart Drill Team State Championship, The President’s Party, Twenty-third Annual Hetherington Fun Run/Walk, Library School Receptions/Dinners, and so much more!
